About

I came to painting after an earlier career in science, bringing with me a curiosity about materials, processes and the natural world. After retiring from that career, I studied Fine Art, graduating with First-Class Honours from the University of Kent in 2022. I now work from my studio in Surrey, close to the borders of Kent and Sussex.

My paintings develop slowly through a process of layering, obscuring and revealing. Working primarily with oil and cold wax, alongside pigment powders and other materials, I build surfaces that retain traces of what has gone before. Marks and colour are added, removed and partially concealed, allowing the painting to evolve rather than beginning with a fixed outcome.

I am interested in what we notice, what we overlook and what might remain hidden beneath the surface. The work often begins with sensations of landscape, weathering and change, rather than a particular view or place. I am drawn to paintings that don't reveal themselves all at once, but invite slower looking and leave space for viewers to bring their own memories and associations.

My work has been exhibited across Surrey and Kent, and is held in private collections across the UK. I am a member of Sevenoaks Visual Arts Forum.
